"“Lillie Who?” is what folks said in 1975 when the first Gospel recording of Lillie Knauls was released. Since then, she has recorded a number of Gospel songs and wrote hymns, including her original songs. During the early years of her ministry, she was a member of the Edwin Hawkins Singers when they recorded the number one hit, “Oh Happy Day,” which topped the US Adult Contemporary Billboard charts for 22 weeks in 1968-69. For more than 25 years now, she has been one of the popular Bill Gaither Homecoming Video friends and usually wears a hat!
Knowing that God was calling her to full-time ministry, she walked away from her 22 year career at a secular job. During her farewell luncheon, God gave her a scripture which is still one of her favorites, Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow nor reap nor store in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” God has proved himself true to His Word! As He has been faithful and has met all her needs for more than 50 years now.
Around the world, This Dove Award Winner Musicianary goes where doors are opened. She ministers in large and small churches, Major Christian TV programs, Ladies Hat Luncheons and for the National Day of Prayer Observance in Washington DC. Lillie is single and satisfied.
Though the times and places change, her Musical Message remains the same…strictly Christ-Centered! Her CD’s feature inspirational songs about God’s forgiveness, love and grace.
